A few changes on my blog
10 August 2025 | Eric
Recently, I stumbled upon this blog which I found very interesting. It’s the blog of Amit Patel. There are many exciting information in it, but let’s start with the quote below:
In the old days of the web, everyone shared links to the good stuff, because you couldn’t find it on search engines. We don’t have enough people linking anymore.
I think this is a good quote to start with. And I can’t agree more with it. So I decided to make some changes on my blog following this philosophy and added a link page where I will share some of my favorite links. They will cover everything from web and game programming to learning and to life.
I hope you enjoy it!
Another thing we have in common with Amit is that he started using Kagi. Kagi has been my favorite search engine for a long time now, I replaced DuckDuckGo with it, and it also replaced Perplexity.
There is this enshittification of the internet that I think is very important to fight. Much like Google, Perplexity fell into this same trap by adding ads and tracking, and after just a few months, a lot of users have already lost their trust in the company.
Why pay for search? Well, I personally don’t mind paying for high-quality results. Moreover, Kagi is not just a search engine; they also use their search engine for adding context to their RAG pipelines. If you purchase the Ultimate plan you will benefit from this as well as access to dozens of high-quality models.
Another thing I enjoyed reading on Amit’s blog is the fact he does yearly retrospectives. I have been doing this for many years now, but I never thought about publishing them. I will do it soon, so stay tuned.
And the last thing for now, while reading his retrospectives, I realized (again) that learning and studying take a lot of time. This is something I often forget, start too many projects, and end up not finishing them. Anything that is worth pursuing must be challenging and requires a lot of time, otherwise, as stated so well by Seth Godin in his book The Dip it’s not worth pursuing.
Anyway, that’s all I have for today. See you soon!
